About Us
Background:
Established in 2003, Clearwater Trails immediately become popular with both local and visiting mountain bikers alike. Clearwater Trails was also one of the first purpose-built trail networks in the area with sustainable and flowing single track. The panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and Umtamvuna River Gorge on route completed the experience. In 2020 Clearwater Trails re-joined Beaver Creek Coffee Estate, who serve as the Start/Finish point for the trail network.
Sustainable Trail Building Techniques:
Jan(Man)Abbott is the undying passion behind the Clearwater Trails trail network.
With his added qualifications and experience, he has been called to assist with a long list of trail networks and events countrywide over the last 15 years.
The philosophy behind the trail development and management were seeded by the publications of the International Mountain Bicycling Association of America (IMBA), who lead in the trail quality and advocacy.
Appreciation of Nature on the Trails:
The Route is set on a mix of agricultural and natural land which is home to an abundance of indigenous fauna and flora. Trail users need to be aware of the delicate balance of the surrounding ecosystems and will also enjoy the beauty and diversity of the various habitats the route passes through.
